Police in Machakos are investigating an incident where a man reportedly committed suicide while in custody of the county askaris under unclear circumstances.
According to Machakos County Police Commander Patrick Lobolia, the man allegedly took his own life in a holding room belonging to Machakos County Government’s Inspectorate officers, located at the Machakos bus park.
The incident occurred on Monday evening at the bus park within Machakos Township.
“The officers from the Machakos County Government arrested the deceased and placed him in the holding room where he reportedly committed suicide. We don’t know why the man was arrested,” Lobolia told the Star by phone shortly after the incident.
The police commander confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the incident.
The body has been transported to a Machakos mortuary.
