Kenya and the Dominican Republic have reaffirmed their shared commitment to stabilizing Haiti through the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM).
This was the key outcome of a high-level meeting held at the Palacio Nacional in Santo Domingo between Dominican Republic President H.E. Luis Abinader and Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Dr. Musalia Mudavadi.
Dr. Mudavadi delivered a message of appreciation from President William Samoei Ruto, commending the Dominican Republic for its steadfast support of the MSSM, which aims to restore peace in Haiti amid rising gang violence and political instability.
“I conveyed H.E. President William Ruto’s gratitude for the Caribbean nation’s strong support for the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti,” said Dr. Mudavadi.
“President Abinader reaffirmed his commitment to the mission’s success and proposed closer collaboration with Brazil to enhance support for Haiti.”
The meeting also served as a platform for discussions on broader regional peace and security matters, including developments in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Horn of Africa.
“We exchanged views on regional security dynamics and I shared outcomes from my recent engagements in Washington, D.C., and the MSSM donor roundtable here in Santo Domingo,” added Dr. Mudavadi.
President Abinader praised Kenya’s leadership on the Haiti mission and emphasized the importance of coordinated multilateral action across the Caribbean and beyond. He also expressed optimism about stronger cooperation with Brazil and other Latin American countries to strengthen the mission’s reach and impact.
Also present at the meeting were top Dominican officials, including H.E. Roberto Álvarez, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Amb. Francisco Caraballo, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Brigadier Mao Enua Gomez.
