Construction of the ultra-modern Mutuini Level 5 Hospital is now in its final stages, with works nearing completion across key departments, signaling a major milestone in the transformation of healthcare services in the capital.
Latest progress reports from the site indicate that floor works are 98 percent complete, while both interior and exterior painting stand at 95 percent. Installation of ceiling boards on the top floor is ongoing at 60 percent, as critical oxygen piping—essential for emergency and ICU services—has reached 80 percent completion.
Partitioning works are almost done at 90 percent, alongside door installation at 95 percent. Specialized units are also taking shape, with the methadone clinic undergoing painting and tiling, while construction of dedicated washrooms for the facility remains in progress.
The near-completion of these works aligns with recent inspections by William Ruto and Johnson Sakaja, who confirmed that the hospital is set for official opening, marking a significant step in expanding access to quality healthcare in Nairobi.
According to recent reports, the facility has undergone a massive transformation from a small sub-county hospital into a fully-fledged 400-bed Level 5 referral hospital, representing a tenfold increase in capacity.
Once operational, the hospital will feature advanced medical services including an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), High Dependency Unit (HDU), expanded outpatient services, and specialized clinics designed to handle complex medical conditions.
The national government has also committed approximately KSh 400 million for modern medical equipment to ensure the facility is fully functional upon opening.
Leaders say the project is part of a broader plan to strengthen public healthcare infrastructure and achieve universal health coverage.
The hospital is expected to significantly ease pressure on major facilities such as Mbagathi Hospital, Kikuyu Level 4 Hospital, Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, and Pumwani Maternity Hospital, which have long struggled with overcrowding.
During a recent inspection tour, President Ruto emphasized that the project is part of the government’s commitment to bringing essential health services closer to wananchi, particularly in densely populated areas such as Dagoretti South.
