A coordinated multi-agency operation has led to the arrest of a suspected key figure behind the mobilisation and financing of criminal gangs in Trans-Nzoia County.
The suspect, identified as Andrew Kimungui Wamalwa, was apprehended during a targeted raid conducted by officers drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Administration Police Service (APS), and the General Service Unit (GSU), working alongside local security teams.
According to au
thorities, the operation followed credible intelligence linking Wamalwa to organised criminal activities within the region. A search of his residence uncovered several items believed to have been used in coordinating unlawful operations, including reflector jackets, stickers, and three swords, among other materials.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Wamalwa played a central role in mobilising groups of goons in the Kipsongo area, who have been linked to a series of incidents that have disrupted peace and endangered residents across parts of Trans-Nzoia County.
In a related crackdown, security officers conducted follow-up operations in the Mitume and Miti Moja neighbourhoods of Kitale, where eleven suspects were arrested. The individuals—Ken Onyango, Felix Odhiambo, Simon Wafula, Maxwell Ochieng, Ian Fwamba, Nesta Otieno, Reagan Odhiambo, Stanley Yasiro, James Odipo, Duncan Elisha, and Hilary Wafula—are believed to be part of the same network.
During the arrests, officers recovered various items suspected to have been stolen from members of the public, including laptops and gas cylinders.
All suspects are currently in police custody undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment in court. Investigations remain ongoing, with authorities pursuing additional suspects believed to be involved in the criminal network.
