A coordinated police operation in Nanyuki, Laikipia County, in the early hours of Wednesday morning led to the arrest of a female suspect and the recovery of a firearm following a dramatic confrontation.

According to police reports, the operation was conducted at around 4:30 a.m. in Muthaiga Estate, an area that has recently experienced a series of burglary incidents. Acting on intelligence and emerging crime patterns, officers strategically positioned themselves within the estate to intercept suspected criminals.
During the patrol, officers spotted a motor vehicle suspiciously concealed within nearby vegetation. Upon noticing the police presence, the driver attempted to flee and ignored orders to stop, prompting a pursuit.
Police say the situation quickly escalated when occupants of the vehicle resisted arrest and allegedly brandished a firearm, discharging a shot toward the pursuing officers. In response to what authorities described as an imminent threat, officers returned fire, forcing the vehicle off the road into a bushy area.
The suspects then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot into nearby residential compounds. With the help of a security guard, officers managed to apprehend one female suspect who had attempted to hide within a compound. She is currently in police custody and assisting detectives with investigations.
A manhunt has since been launched for the remaining suspects who escaped. The National Police Service has intensified operations in the area and is following multiple leads to track down those involved.
Authorities have assured residents of continued security efforts, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
