Oburu Odinga Meets Northern Kenya ODM Leaders

By Faith Owuor

ODM  party leader Oburu Odinga has intensified efforts to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures after holding a consultative meeting with party officials from Northern Kenya as part of ODM’s ongoing nationwide engagement programme.

The meeting, held on Wednesday, brought together party officials from Isiolo, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir and Garissa counties to discuss strategies aimed at strengthening ODM’s presence in the region and positioning the party for a stronger showing in the next General Election.

In a statement, ODM said the meeting was part of a broader effort to engage party officials across the country and strengthen the party’s structures ahead of the polls.

“As part of routine engagements with party officials from the various parts of the country, PL @DrOburu_O on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, met with officials from the Northern Frontier District (NFD) to discuss how to strengthen the party in the region and make it stronger as we head into the general election year,” ODM noted in a statement.

According to the party, the discussions focused on enhancing grassroots mobilisation, improving coordination among regional leaders and expanding ODM’s support base across Northern Kenya.

Addressing the officials, Oburu emphasised the importance of building a united and well-organised party, noting that strong grassroots structures would be critical to ODM’s success in future elections.

He urged leaders from the region to remain actively engaged with local communities while championing the party’s vision and development agenda.

The Northern Kenya officials reaffirmed their loyalty to ODM and pledged to safeguard the party’s identity and ideological values as political competition in the region continues to intensify.

They also committed to stepping up membership recruitment campaigns across the five counties in an effort to broaden the party’s support base and strengthen its grassroots networks.

The leaders expressed confidence that increased mobilisation and sustained engagement with local communities would boost the party’s visibility and improve its prospects ahead of the next electoral cycle.

The meeting forms part of ODM’s wider strategy of engaging party officials across different regions to assess organisational structures, address local concerns and lay the groundwork for future political campaigns.

With political parties gradually shifting their focus towards the next General Election, ODM has intensified internal consultations aimed at consolidating its support base, strengthening party organs and promoting unity among leaders at both national and county levels.
