Kisumu West lawmaker Rosa Akinyi Buyu sought to put the record straight that ODM members seconded to serve the broad-based government won’t be part and parcel of the team to negotiate with the government.
She said Cooperatives and MSME Development Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary James Opiyo Wandayi and Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Ali Hassan Joho won’t be in the ODM team that would be negotiating with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party leader, President William Ruto.
“It is a matter of principal to avoid a conflict of interest and therefore the three CS’s won’t be in party list,” she said.
Rosa said the three are serving the government in their capacity as executive and it’s not possible to have them on the negotiation team on behalf of the party.
She was talking on a local television station in the capital city.
The Kisumu West legislator told the show that by law it won’t be possible to have them in the team while serving under President Ruto.
Rosa, who is also party political affairs secretary, said the three Cabinet Secretaries report directly to the head of state.
She urged the three Cabinet Secretaries to give the opportunity to those who do not report to the executive ample time to navigate the negotiation process with the government with an open mind.
“To have three Cabinet Secretaries who answer to President Ruto will be hard task for ODM,” she pointed out.
