Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has launched a scathing attack on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), declaring that the party has “rotted” and urging Edwin Sifuna to abandon his legal battle to reclaim the party’s Secretary-General position.
Speaking during a funeral ceremony in Emuhaya Constituency on Friday, Osotsi said there was no reason for Sifuna to continue fighting for a position in a party that, in his view, had lost its direction and failed to respect its members.
“ODM imeoza. Hakuna haja ya kwenda kutetea hiyo kiti ya Secretary General kule kortini. Wacha iende,” Osotsi said.
He added that once he returns to Nairobi, he intends to meet Sifuna and persuade him to withdraw the court case.
Osotsi further accused ODM of sidelining both himself and Sifuna, particularly following the death of veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga. He argued that the party’s current leadership had abandoned the ideals and principles that once made ODM a strong political force.
The senator’s remarks come days after ODM’s National Executive Committee endorsed Sifuna’s removal from the Secretary-General position for the second time this year. The party’s interim leadership has maintained that the decision was reached following recommendations by its Internal Dispute Resolution Committee.
However, Sifuna and his allies have rejected the decision, describing it as unconstitutional and procedurally flawed. His legal team has indicated that it will challenge the latest removal in court, arguing that a previous attempt to oust him had already been overturned by the judiciary.
Osotsi, who has increasingly aligned himself with Sifuna through the Linda Mwananchi movement, praised the Nairobi senator’s leadership, describing him as one of the country’s emerging political voices.
