StarTimes Deepens Investment in Local Content, AI Innovation with Launch of Sura ya Pili

StarTimes Media has reinforced its commitment to Kenya’s creative industry with the launch of Sura ya Pili, a new locally produced television drama set to premiere on July 6, 2026, on Rembo TV.

The launch signals the broadcaster’s continued investment in original Kenyan productions as it seeks to grow the country’s creative economy, create employment opportunities and embrace emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), to enhance content production and distribution.

Speaking during the launch, StarTimes Marketing Director Tamima Ibrahim said the company remains committed to supporting local storytellers by investing in quality productions that reflect Kenyan experiences while creating sustainable jobs for actors, writers, directors, producers and technical crews.

“We are investing heavily in the promotion of the creative economy through quality local productions. Sura ya Pili will not only entertain audiences but also create job opportunities for the cast and the many professionals involved in its production,” said Ibrahim.

She noted that while AI is increasingly transforming the global media and entertainment industry, StarTimes views the technology as a tool to complement—not replace—human creativity. She said the company is exploring AI-powered solutions to improve production workflows, audience engagement and content distribution while ensuring that Kenyan creatives remain at the centre of storytelling.

Ibrahim added that investment in local content remains a key pillar of StarTimes’ strategy, saying authentic Kenyan stories are essential in preserving culture, nurturing talent and expanding opportunities within the country’s fast-growing creative sector.

The drama features a strong cast led by renowned musician Jovial Ayub, alongside Gibson Ausa, Ivy Wanjiku and other talented actors.
