President William Ruto has nominated Canon Dr. Ida Betty Odinga for appointment to the Foreign Service, subject to approval by the National Assembly.
In a statement from the Executive Office of the President, the nomination was transmitted to Parliament in line with constitutional requirements on state appointments.
Mama Ida, a former chairperson of the League of Kenya Women Voters, is widely recognized for her advocacy for women, youth, and vulnerable communities. She has also held leadership roles in the private sector, including at East African Spectre, a liquefied gas cylinder manufacturing firm.

The Executive Office said her appointment is expected to strengthen Kenya’s voice in environmental diplomacy and support the country’s role as host of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The nomination was conveyed by Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service Felix Koskei, pending parliamentary vetting and approval.
