Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi’s spouse Tessie Shangatti urged for the embracing of the restoration of dignity for children on hope and love.
She argued that children deserved a chance to dream and thrive like other human beings.
“Let’s have collaboration from partnership organizations as there is no single organization that can meet the needs of children alone,” she said.
Tessie emphasized that every child has a fundamental right to be cared for by their parents.
She spoke during Wemathon 2026 fund day held at Butterfly Pavilion in Mombasa county. The event was organized by Wema Centre.
Musalia’s spouse pointed out that the 2010 constitution, under article 53 of bill of rights, guarantees every child their fundamental rights and freedoms.
Tessie added these safeguard their dignity, wellbeing and future but she wondered why some of the specific application of rights to children are not limited to the right.
She said in her speech that some of the specific applications are free and compulsory like basic education.
“Also basic nutrition, shelter and healthcare including protection from abuse,” she said.
Mudavadi’s spouse also added others as neglect, harmful culture practices and all forms of violence including inhuman treatment and punishment.
Tessie included either hazardous or exploitative labour.
She disclosed that the government has made an effort to strengthen child protection systems by publishing the Public Finance Management [Child Welfare Fund] regulation.
