The launch of The Bond Season 6 – A Showcase of Chinese Films and TV Programmes has marked a new chapter in Kenya–China relations, with both countries reaffirming their commitment to strengthening collaboration in the creative industry through film, television, technology and cultural exchange.

The initiative aims to deepen people-to-people ties by promoting cultural understanding while creating new opportunities for knowledge sharing, skills transfer, technological advancement and joint film and television productions between Kenya and China.

Speaking during the launch, Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) Managing Director Agnes Kalekye said the partnership between KBC and China Media Group (CMG) represents a strategic investment in the future of Kenya’s broadcasting industry, particularly for the country’s youthful population.

“KBC is trading screen time for access to China Media Group’s advanced infrastructure, including production AI, cloud storage and broadcast technologies. Today, we declare the end of an era. KBC is not just here to be a distribution pipe for foreign content; we are here to build a media industrial complex for East Africa,” she said.

Chinese Ambassador to Kenya H.E. Guo Haiyan reaffirmed China’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Kenya through joint productions, media exchanges and cultural partnerships.

She described The Bond as an important component of the China–Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges, saying film and television remain among the world’s most powerful tools for connecting communities.

“Film and television are among humanity’s most powerful languages. They bridge borders, cultures and languages, enabling people to see the world through each other’s eyes. We hope these programmes will continue bringing the people of China and Kenya closer while creating more opportunities for collaboration between our creative industries,” she said.

Government Spokesperson Charles Owino said international partnerships should empower countries to learn from one another while preserving their own national identity and development priorities.

“Every country is unique. Each nation must be free to choose the path that suits its own environment, aspirations and circumstances without external imposition, while borrowing ideas and adapting successful practices where appropriate and remaining true to its own institutions and values,” he said.

The launch brought together senior government officials, media executives, filmmakers and industry stakeholders from both Kenya and China, reflecting the growing importance of creative diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations.

Beyond showcasing Chinese films and television programmes, stakeholders said The Bond Season 6 represents a platform for deeper cooperation in content production, talent development, digital broadcasting and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence.

The initiative is expected to unlock new opportunities for Kenyan filmmakers, broadcasters and content creators through training, technology transfer and co-production partnerships, further positioning the creative economy as an important pillar of Kenya–China relations.
