Kenya has received a major boost in its journey towards digitisation of an inclusive and modern Identity Management System after the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) donated equipment worth Sh50.8 million.
The equipment, which includes servers, computers and other ICT materials, will be used in supporting a digitised and secure Identity Management System by the Department of Civil Registration Services.
Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho (pictured) yesterday said the equipment will be distributed to registries across the country to drive digital registration of births and other records that will guide future national government planning.
He said the government is also working towards improving registration of deaths from the current 62 per cent to 85 per cent.
