Vihiga County on Monday hosted the national Ministry of Health leadership during the launch of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda under the Taifa Care Model.
Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale led the mission, which included visits to the Vihiga County Teaching and Referral Hospital and public engagements with residents.
“Our aim is to restore public trust in all levels of our healthcare system through platforms such as the Taifa Care Model—without fear of financial struggles,” said the CS.
Strategic Health Authority (SHA) CEO Dr. Mercy Mwangangi emphasized that the payment model guarantees equitable treatment for all Kenyans, tailored to their level of need.
Medical Services PS Dr. Ouma Oluga underscored the role of modern tools in transforming service delivery as he unveiled new equipment at the referral hospital.
“We should all embrace digital transformation. The devices we are handing out today will help us improve accountability and efficiency,” he said.
Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo, who hosted the delegation, praised the ministry for equipping the county’s largest hospital with state-of-the-art technology. He pledged continued cooperation with the national government to strengthen other health facilities across Vihiga.
