Lauer, once
one of America’s most recognizable television personalities, has not returned to broadcasting despite periodic speculation about a possible media comeback. NBC News terminated his employment after the network received a detailed complaint alleging inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace.
Since leaving television, the 68-year-old has embraced a private lifestyle, spending much of his time in the Hamptons, New York. While he has made a few public appearances in recent years, he has largely avoided media interviews and has not publicly discussed any plans to return to the industry.
Financially, Lauer is believed to remain secure, thanks in part to his extensive real estate investments. In 2022, he sold his Hamptons estate for $40.9 million, fueling reports that he continues to rely on his property portfolio rather than pursuing a career in television.
Despite recurring speculation, no television network has announced plans to bring Lauer back on air. Nearly a decade after his departure from NBC, his story remains one of the most significant and widely discussed falls from grace in American television, and he continues to live largely out of the public spotlight.
