Forty-three inmates who were diagnosed with Covid-19 at Bungoma GK Prison on Monday are in a stable condition.
Bungoma County Health Executive Dr Antony Walela said inmates were tested after an 85-year-man old was diagnosed with the virus.
“The 85-year-old inmate showed all signs of corona and when he was tested, it was confirmed that he had contracted the virus.
This prompted medics, in conjunction with prison officials, to test his colleagues,” Walela told journalists. Out of the 270 inmates in one ward, 43 of them were found with the virus and put in isolation.
He said they were responding well to treatment as medics carry out routine checkups to ensure they are well.
Dr Walela said many of residents were visiting health facilities to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. –
