Kenya was yesterday thrust into international limelight after the country landed a seat on a global anti-corruption organisation that brings together institutions fighting graft.

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) chief executive officer Twalib Mbarak (pictured) was appointed as an executive member of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) committee to represent East and Central Africa in the organisation whose objective is to promote effective implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) that is aimed as eradicating graft.

The body brings together government institutions across the globe that are responsible for investigation, prosecution and prevention of corruption around the world.

IAACA, which was created in 2006 to boost the war on graft that has been a menace in almost all governments, also plays a role of fostering constructive collaboration among its members in the prevention and control of corruption, as well as in recovering assets from graft lords and their conduits and international cooperation.

China’s head of Independent Commission Against Corruption in Hong Kong and China was picked as the president of the body in which more than 140 countries and regions participating in the association.

According to EACC, Mbarak’s appointment is an acknowledgment of gains in the war against corruption.

“Over the last five years, EACC has recovered assets worth over Sh25 billion being proceeds of corruption. EACC has also conducted several high-impact investigations resulting in high profile prosecutions and convictions,” read a statement.
