Coast Leaders call for a united front and greater political representation

Coast political leaders have been holding discussions aimed at consolidating the region’s political power and strengthening its influence in the country’s political affairs.

The meeting was attended by Wiper Patriotic Front leaders, including former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, Mohamed Ali, Danson Mwashako and Aisha Jumwa.

In a post on X on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, Musyoka described the discussions as “candid and strategic,” saying the leaders were focused on strengthening the political influence of the Coast region and ensuring it plays its “rightful role” in Kenya’s political process.

“Our discussion was unabashedly political and strategic, focusing on how to enhance the political presence of the region, and on how the Coast will play its rightful role in the journey to a better Kenya,” Musyoka said.

The leaders also emphasized the importance of unity and inclusion, noting that working together would help advance the interests of the Coast region.

Musyoka summed up the message from the meeting as “unity, inclusion, a new direction.”

The talks come as political leaders across the country begin consultations and alliance-building ahead of the next political contests. The Coast leaders’ meeting could signal efforts to develop a more coordinated political strategy for the region and strengthen its bargaining power at the national level.

Musyoka also called for collective action, saying Kenyans can bring about change by working together. He ended his message with the phrase, “Pamoja tuta Komboa Kenya,” meaning that Kenyans can achieve change together.

However, the leaders did not announce any formal political agreement or new coalition following the meeting. It remains unclear whether the consultations will eventually lead to a formal regional political alliance.

The meeting nevertheless signals renewed efforts by Coast leaders to work together and use their combined political influence to strengthen the region’s voice and representation in national decision-making.
