Kenyan detectives arrested David Onyango Elgon, known as MC Adek Tatu, in Mombasa for a Facebook post that mocked the deaths of 16 students, mostly from the Kikuyu community, in a May 28 fire at the school in Gilgil.
The post offered fake condolences to non-Kikuyus while wishing more Kikuyu losses, ending with ‘I hate Kikuyus’ and laughing emojis; he claimed his account was hacked but was tracked down and detained.
Police suspect arson in the blaze that injured 79 others, with eight students held for questioning, as the arrest underscores Kenya’s push against online incitement amid tribal tensions.
