Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula has moved to cool down tension after legislators expressed anger following outcry over frustration in accessing Social Health Authority (SHA) services.
He directed the Parliamentary Departmental Committee on Health under Dr. Pukose Robert to have a round table with officials from the health ministry to sort out teething challenges currently facing SHA.
He said there is an urgent need to sort out the crisis facing the health scheme in the country.
“There is also need to streamline the Tafia care countrywide,” he pointed out.
He was speaking at a function in Kakamega amid protests from members of parliament.
The Speaker added that taxpayers are required to benefit from the new health scheme.
Wetang’ula defended his directive saying it is as a result of a debate which had emerged during the just concluded mid-term retreat for members of parliament held in Naivasha in Nakuru county.
He called for patience from members of the public assuring them that the government will amicably resolve challenges facing the new health scheme.
“The main aim is to see that things are functioning properly and smoothly,” he pointed out.
