Governor Gladys Wanga has expressed deep concern over the severe flooding affecting Homa Bay County and parts of Nairobi, citing significant disruption to families, property destruction, and loss of livelihoods.
In a statement released on Friday, Governor Wanga said county disaster response teams are actively working with national government agencies, humanitarian partners, and community leaders to provide timely assistance to affected residents. Emergency relief supplies are being prioritized, and vulnerable areas are being closely monitored for rising water levels.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with every family that has been affected by these floods. We urge residents, particularly those living in flood-prone areas and along riverbanks, to remain vigilant, move to higher ground, and strictly follow safety advisories issued by authorities,” the Governor said.
Residents needing emergency assistance or wishing to report flooding incidents are encouraged to contact the County Emergency Response Team via the toll-free line 080000087 or 0725279372.
Governor Wanga also called on the people of Nairobi and other counties facing similar challenges to learn from the situation and strengthen preparedness for climate-related disasters. She emphasized the importance of resilient infrastructure and responsible environmental stewardship.

The Governor concluded by urging collaboration among leaders and citizens to protect lives, safeguard the environment, and build communities better prepared for extreme weather events.
“The County Government of Homa Bay will continue to coordinate response efforts and provide updates as the situation evolves. May God keep all our people safe,” she added.
