Kiambu politician John Mwaura has called on young people in the county to take a more active role in shaping the region’s political future, saying their participation will be critical in determining the leadership agenda ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Mwaura said youth should move beyond being spectators in politics and take their place in decision-making, particularly on issues affecting employment, economic empowerment, opportunities and governance.
He spoke after meeting youth from across Kiambu County, an engagement he said provided an opportunity to listen to their aspirations, challenges and political expectations.
“The youth are the backbone of Kiambu’s political future. Their voice, energy, and participation will be critical in shaping a new leadership agenda focused on jobs, empowerment, economic opportunities, and accountable governance,” Mwaura said.
He urged young people to use their numbers and influence to demand leadership that responds to their economic needs while actively participating in political processes.
“The time for youth to be spectators is over. It is time to take their rightful place at the decision-making table and shape the future of Kiambu ,” he said.
The meeting was organised by the DCP Youth Leader and DCP Coordinator, bringing together young people as the Democratic Congress Party (DCP) continues to strengthen its grassroots structures in the county.
Mwaura’s remarks come as political parties and aspirants increasingly turn their attention to young voters ahead of the 2027 elections, with youth expected to play a significant role in determining political outcomes in Kiambu and across Mt Kenya.
