Ngunjiri Wambugu demands NDC to determine Uhuru Kenyatta’s successor

Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has called for a National Delegates Convention (NDC) to determine the next party leader after former President Uhuru Kenyatta stepped down from the party.

Wambugu said the party should follow a formal and democratic process to identify Kenyatta’s successor, ruling out what he described as shortcuts in choosing the next leader.

In a statement, the former lawmaker said only an NDC could provide the legitimate platform for delegates to decide who should take over the party leadership after Kenyatta.

“Only the National Delegates Convention (NDC) that I have been asking for can & will determine who is our next Party Leader after our beloved Uhuru Kenyatta. No more shortcuts,” Wambugu said.

His remarks come amid discussions within the party over its future leadership and direction following Kenyatta’s exit from the presidency.

Wambugu’s call places emphasis on delegates and the party’s formal structures in determining its next leadership rather than allowing the position to be settled through informal arrangements.
