Kenyans took to social media with mixed reactions after President William Ruto issued a condolence message following the death of Paul Kareithi Muraya, the brother of gospel artist Karangu Muraya.
In his message, President Ruto described the late Paul as a hardworking Kenyan who served as a professional long-distance truck driver and was deeply committed to his family and country.
“We join the Muraya family and friends in mourning the passing of Paul Kareithi Muraya… In Paul, we have lost a hardworking and honorable Kenyan,” the President said.

While the message was intended as a tribute, it quickly sparked debate online, with some social media users questioning its tone and phrasing during a moment of mourning.
One user, Brian Omariba, commented: “The Mourner-in-Chief who outsourced his grief to an AI computer pixels 😂😂,” a remark that gained significant traction online.

Other users defended the President’s message and shared their own condolences, highlighting Paul Muraya’s work as a long-distance truck driver and his dedication to his family.

However, the online conversation also broadened into a wider debate about how political leaders craft public condolence messages, especially in the age of social media where such statements are quickly scrutinized.
