The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested and arraigned a clerical officer attached to the Uasin Gishu Lands Office over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe to facilitate land subdivision.
The suspect, Noah Kipkemboi Rotich, was presented before a court and charged with receiving a bribe contrary to the Bribery Act, 2016.
According to the anti-graft agency, the case followed a complaint lodged with the commission alleging that Rotich had demanded KSh100,000 from a member of the public to expedite a land subdivision process. Investigations later established that he had indeed solicited the amount and received part of the payment.
The Commission said it completed investigations and forwarded the file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, which approved the prosecution.
Rotich was arraigned in court where he was granted a cash bail of KSh30,000 or an alternative bond of KSh100,000 pending the hearing of the case.
The EACC reiterated its commitment to fighting corruption in public offices, especially within land administration systems that have repeatedly been flagged for bribery-related complaints.
The case is set to be mentioned for further directions.
