Traders in Kisii County have received a major boost following the commissioning of the Masimba Modern Market in Nyaribari Masaba, a project aimed at improving working conditions for small-scale business operators.
The newly launched
market, constructed at a cost of KSh55 million, is set to accommodate up to 300 traders, most of whom previously operated in open-air spaces exposed to harsh weather conditions such as rain, scorching sun, mud, and dust.
The modern facility is equipped with essential amenities, including cold storage, providing traders—commonly referred to as Mama Mboga—with a more dignified and efficient working environment.
Leaders present during the commissioning noted that the project is part of a broader effort to uplift grassroots traders by providing structured and safe business spaces. The initiative aligns with the government’s bottom-up economic model, which prioritizes support for small-scale entrepreneurs.
Residents and traders in Nyaribari Masaba welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the new market will not only improve hygiene and working conditions but also enhance business growth and income stability.
The Masimba Modern Market is one of several similar projects being rolled out across the country as part of ongoing efforts to modernize local trading infrastructure and empower communities.
