Former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has defended the push to have the Ol Kalou seat ceded to Jubilee Party, arguing that individual political choices should not override coalition agreements.
Wambugu dismissed claims that the seat should be withheld due to alleged cooperation between candidate Kiaraho and the government, saying such arguments ignore past political precedents.
He cited the Mbeere example, where Geoffrey Ruku worked with the government despite being elected under the Democratic Party, which was part of the opposition at the time.
“Those arguing that opposition should not cede Ol Kalao to Jubilee because Kiaraho was working with govt must also remember that in Mbeere Ruku actually joined govt despite being in DP which was in the Opposition but the seat was still ceded to DP,’Ngunjiri said.

According to Wambugu, the seat was still recognized as belonging to the Democratic Party, reinforcing the need to separate individual alignments from formal party agreements.
His remarks come as political parties within the opposition continue to negotiate seat-sharing arrangements, with the Ol Kalou contest emerging as a key test of coalition discipline and unity.
