Nyeri Woman Rep Rahab Mukami has called for political tolerance as the 2022 General Election approaches.

Mukami, a key ally of Deputy President William Ruto urged supporters to remain calm and grant ODM party leader Raila Odinga, who is expected in the region this weekend, a hearing.

“Demonstration of political maturity can only be seen when you welcome him, in your backyard, and give chance to those of a different political view from yours. If you are our true supporter, I hereby urge you to do so once the PM (Raila) visits Nyeri,” she said.

She, however, said this gesture will only be relevant if reciprocated in equal measure and without compromise when other political leaders make similar visits to Nyeri and other places around the country.

Mukami claimed that there has been unfair treatment of Deputy President and his lieutenants, citing an incident where Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro and others leaders were heckled out of Nyeri town when they tried to engage a gathering a fortnight ago. The DP is expected to tour Nyeri county next weekend, a week after Raila’s visit.

“We shall not expect anything less than what we accord other leaders who we do not support. The rule of the game must always be fair to all,” she said.

Mukami spoke at her Nyeri offices during an event to disburse Sh 4 million bursaries to 410 needy learners drawn from around Nyeri county.
