Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has publicly expressed regret over supporting President William Ruto’s successful 2022 presidential bid, in what amounts to one of his sharpest criticisms yet of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Speaking during a public event in Kiharu, Murang’a County, Nyoro said he was disappointed by the government’s performance over the past three years and questioned the administration’s preparedness to govern.
“I regret supporting the wheelbarrow and its driver. He did not have the slightest idea of running the government, and that’s why during the first year of the Kenya Kwanza administration, we were launching projects that had already been completed during Mzee Jomo Kenyatta’s era,” Nyoro said.
The legislator, who was among the most visible and vocal campaigners for Ruto’s presidential bid under the Hustler movement, accused the administration of focusing more on public relations than delivering meaningful change to wananchi.
He also criticised the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), arguing that the party had drifted away from the interests and aspirations of ordinary Kenyans.
Using the wheelbarrow, the party’s symbol, as a metaphor for the government’s struggles, Nyoro said: “The wheelbarrow lost its wheel, got rusted, and its scratching noise due to lack of grease is screaming into the ears and minds of every Kenyan.”
Nyoro’s latest remarks add to a growing list of concerns he has raised about the government’s policies in recent months.
He has repeatedly questioned the administration’s borrowing strategy, arguing that the continued rise in public debt contradicts campaign promises to reduce the country’s debt burden.
The Kiharu MP has also criticised funding allocations to the education sector, maintaining that the government has failed to fulfil its pledge to prioritise education and improve learning institutions.
