The ongoing construction of the modern Ol-Kalou Market is emerging as one of the most significant development projects in Nyandarua County, with traders and residents expressing optimism that the facility will transform business activities and create new economic opportunities once completed.

d to provide a modern and well-organized trading environment, the market is expected to accommodate hundreds of traders while improving sanitation, security, and accessibility. The project is also anticipated to enhance the movement of goods, attract more customers, and support small and medium-sized enterprises, which form the backbone of the local economy.
As construction progresses, the market has become a focal point of discussion across the constituency, with many residents saying they are paying closer attention to development projects that have a direct impact on their livelihoods.
Speaking about his development agenda, parliamentary aspirant Samuel Muchina Nyagah said his focus remains on improving the lives of Ol-Kalou residents through practical initiatives.
“Tunasimamia progress ya Ol Kalou Constituency na ndiyo sababu tukajitoa ili tuweze kufanya yale ambayo wananchi wa Ol Kalou yatawafaidia,” said Muchina.
Muchina noted that investments in public infrastructure, such as markets, create an enabling environment for entrepreneurs, farmers, and small businesses to thrive. According to him, modern trading facilities are essential for improving livelihoods and strengthening the constituency’s economy.
“We were standing and contesting for progress for the people of Ol Kalou,” he said, emphasizing that development should unite residents regardless of their political affiliation.
The market is expected to address challenges that traders have faced for years, including inadequate trading space, poor drainage, and limited storage facilities. Local business owners believe the new infrastructure will not only improve working conditions but also attract more investment to the town.
Economic experts have long argued that modern markets play a crucial role in stimulating local economies by increasing trade, supporting agricultural value chains, and creating employment opportunities. The Ol-Kalou Market is expected to serve as a strategic commercial hub, connecting farmers, traders, and consumers from across Nyandarua County.
Muchina has also pledged to ensure that development projects remain at the heart of his leadership agenda if elected.
“I have worked with the late David Kiaraho for a very long time and learned from him. I will complete the projects he started and begin new ones. I urge residents to give me this chance, and I promise never to let you down,” he said.
He has consistently maintained that continuity in development is critical to ensuring ongoing projects are completed and that residents continue to benefit from government investments. His campaign has largely focused on infrastructure development, electricity connectivity, road improvements, and economic empowerment through development projects.
As the market edges closer to completion, anticipation continues to grow among traders who believe the facility will improve their businesses and create a more organized commercial environment. Many residents view the project as an important investment that could stimulate commerce, increase household incomes, and enhance Ol-Kalou’s appeal as a business hub.
With construction steadily taking shape, the modern market stands as a symbol of the constituency’s growing focus on development, reflecting the aspirations of residents who increasingly say they want leadership to be measured by tangible projects and improved livelihoods rather than political rhetoric.
