Residents of Nderema Village in Navakholo Constituency are celebrating the launch of a new rural electrification project by President William Ruto, who is currently in Western Kenya.
For decades, the community lived without electricity, but that is set to change as 161 households, local shops, and a church in the area are now scheduled to be connected to the national grid.
The project involves the construction of 6.6 kilometers of low-voltage power lines, the installation of single-phase lines, and the establishment of a transformer substation, bringing reliable electricity to the village for the first time.
Residents expressed excitement about the development, noting that electricity will not only improve their quality of life but also open up opportunities for business, education, and community development.
“The arrival of electricity is a dream come true,” said one resident. “It will change our lives, our businesses, and our children’s ability to study at night.”
The rural electrification initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to expand access to electricity in underserved areas, enhancing social and economic development across the country.
