National Economic Development Party (NEDP) leader and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko is signaling a new wave of political momentum as he launched his party’s aspirants’ campaign in Machakos County.
In a statement shared on his X account, Sonko described the event as a “massive success” and warned political opponents to prepare for a shift in the local political landscape. “This so-called project is a bulldozer, and it is coming for your seats, your comfort, and your politics. Slowly but surely, the ground is shifting,” he wrote.

The meeting, which brought together NEDP aspirants for various county and parliamentary seats, showcased the party’s growing organizational reach and Sonko’s hands-on approach to mobilizing supporters. Analysts say the rhetoric underscores NEDP’s ambition to expand its influence beyond its traditional strongholds.
Supporters at the event praised Sonko’s bold messaging and energy, while social media reactions highlighted the enthusiasm among aspirants and local residents. Observers note that the Machakos meeting could be the first of many as Sonko strengthens his party’s foothold ahead of the 2026 elections.
