The government has announced a series of major investments in Kisii and Nyamira counties aimed at transforming local economies and improving livelihoods.
Speaking at State House, Nairobi, during a meeting with a Gusii political leadership delegation led by Kisii Governor Simba Arati, President William Ruto said the government is committed to ensuring every part of the country enjoys shared prosperity.
“We have before us a rare and historic opportunity to make every part of our country truly prosperous. The projects we are rolling out in Kisii and Nyamira will directly change lives and create opportunities for growth,” said President Ruto.

In Kisii County, the government is rolling out Sh30 billion worth of investments targeting key sectors. These include the construction of 15,000 affordable housing units, Sh2.5 billion modern tertiary student hostels, and four state-of-the-art markets valued at Sh2.4 billion.
“These housing projects will not only provide shelter but also create thousands of jobs for our youth while spurring economic activities across Kisii,” the President added.

In neighboring Nyamira County, equally ambitious projects valued at over Sh16 billion are set to transform the local economy. They include the development of 7,000 affordable housing units, construction of student hostels, and establishment of three modern markets to boost trade and economic growth.
Additionally, more than 32,000 households across the two counties will be connected to reliable electricity.
“Electricity is a game-changer. It will expand business opportunities, support small industries, and empower families with modern tools to thrive,” said Ruto.

ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga, who attended the meeting alongside Cabinet Secretary Ogamba Migosi and Solicitor General Shadrack Mose, welcomed the projects.
“This is a step in the right direction. The Gusii region has immense potential, and these investments will help unlock it,” Odinga noted.
