Presidential aspirant Jimi Wanjigi has asked his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Elections Board (NEB), to re-open the window for those who wish to apply for the party’s presidential ticket in next year’s General Election.

Speaking yesterday in Nairobi, Wanjigi said that long-standing members of the party, must always be accorded a seat at the front in party matters, even as he told the party to treat all members with fairness.

He said that his strategy for winning top ODM seat, involves persuading majority of the delegates to attend the National Delegates Conference.

Wanjigi announced he is running for the presidency in July this year and has since been popularising his candidature.

“The presidential contest must be reopened now. We also expect a transparent process down to the MCA level.

It must be free and fair. We are in this to make sure the party is stronger. It is our right as members to demand free, fair, transparent nominations for all positions,” Wanjigi said.

He made the remarks after his bid for the presidency received a major boost, after officials from 12 counties who endorsed his candidature demanded that the party stops sidelining them.

“The members with me are founders. We are a party that is going to accommodate many. We must never forget our founders, who have ensured that the party is strong 16 years on. We like new friends, but we must not leave our old friends behind,” said Wanjigi.
