Kelvin Mwaura Ngotho, accused in the Ksh.2.85 billion gold scam, appeared in Milimani Law courts.
Arrested by DCI detectives, he faced charges of conspiracy and attempted felony but pleaded not guilty.
He was released on Ksh.3 million bond or Ksh.1 million cash bail.
DCI pursued him since December 27, 2023, as the alleged mastermind of the scam involving an 8-member gang.
He escaped during a police raid on the day of the deal.
His accomplices were arrested during a transactional meeting with Malaysian nationals.
The suspects operated from a house in Kileleshwa, with furnished office-style rooms. Foreigners were to finalize a 50 kg gold shipment, priced at Ksh.7.2 million per kilogram.
The gold, totaling Ksh.2.85 billion, was supposed to come from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
DCI disrupted the meeting, arresting the suspects and G4S guards hired for security.
