Women Leaders Rally Behind Ruto’s 2027 Bid in Bungoma

By Beatrice Mose

As political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election gradually gathers momentum, women leaders in Bungoma County have been urged to take a leading role in promoting voter registration and supporting President William Ruto’s bid for a second term.

The call was made during a meeting bringing together women leaders from Bungoma County’s nine constituencies at the Mabanga Farmers Training Centre (FTC), where participants were encouraged to spearhead grassroots campaigns aimed at increasing voter registration by mobilising eligible residents to acquire national identity cards and register with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Addressing the gathering, the leader underscored the critical role women play in shaping the country’s political future and influencing electoral outcomes at the grassroots level.

“I urged them to champion President William Ruto’s re-election bid by mobilising eligible residents to acquire national identity cards and register as voters ahead of the 2027 General Election.”

The meeting was attended by Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka, Members of Parliament John Chikati, John Makali, Martin Pepela and Fred Kapondi, Nominated Senator Consolata Nabwire Wakwabubi and Woman Representative Catherine Wambilianga.

Discussions centred on the government’s development record in the Western region and the role women can play in advancing the Kenya Kwanza administration’s agenda ahead of the next election.

The leaders highlighted several projects undertaken by the government, arguing that they demonstrate the administration’s commitment to improving livelihoods and accelerating development in Bungoma County and the wider Western region.

Among the projects cited were the reduction of subsidised fertiliser prices from Sh7,500 to Sh2,500, the revival of Nzoia Sugar Company, the resumption of stalled road projects, the construction of modern markets, plans to establish a Level Six Teaching and Referral Hospital in Bungoma, the expansion of the Malaba–Eldoret highway and the proposed extension of the Standard Gauge Railway to Malaba through Mianga.

According to the speaker, these initiatives reflect the government’s determination to transform the region through strategic investments and infrastructure development.

“These projects demonstrate President Ruto’s commitment to transforming Western region and improving livelihoods, adding that Bungoma County has benefited from unprecedented government investment under his administration.”

Beyond development projects, the gathering also emphasised the importance of peaceful political engagement ahead of the 2027 elections. Women leaders were encouraged to promote unity within their communities and discourage politics that could divide residents along political or ethnic lines.

“I also urged women to reject divisive politics, support the President’s development agenda and serve as ambassadors by encouraging eligible Kenyans to obtain identity cards and register as voters.”
