With only three days remaining before the Ol Kalou Constituency by-election, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has assured voters that preparations for the exercise are complete and that the official Register of Voters remains secure and legally valid.
In a public advisory issued ahead of the July 16 poll, the Commission reminded all registered voters that only an original National Identity Card or a valid Kenyan passport will be accepted as identification documents at polling stations.
“The Commission reminds all registered voters in Ol Kalou Constituency that their original National Identity Card or a valid Kenyan Passport are the only official identification documents to be used on polling day,” the Commission said.
The electoral body also moved to dispel misinformation surrounding the voters’ register, reaffirming that the register was lawfully certified and published in accordance with the Elections (Registration of Voters) Regulations, 2012, and remains the only register that will be used during the by-election.
“The Register of Voters for the Ol Kalou Constituency by-election remains secure. The Register was duly certified and published through Kenya Gazette Notice No. 8410 (Vol. CXXVIII—No. 97) dated 5 June 2026, in accordance with Regulation 12(4) of the Elections (Registration of Voters) Regulations, 2012, and remains the only lawful Register to be used for the by-election,” IEBC stated.
The Commission further noted that the Register of Voters is a public document and has already been displayed at all polling stations across the constituency, as required by law, to allow voters to verify their registration details before election day.
“The Register of Voters is a public document which, by law, must be printed and displayed at every polling station at least seven (7) days before polling day. The Register has been displayed at all polling stations within the constituency to enable voters to confirm their registration details,” the statement read.
The assurance comes as the Commission intensifies voter awareness efforts and seeks to counter false information that could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.
IEBC urged members of the public to rely only on information shared through its official communication channels.
“For accurate and up-to-date information, please visit the IEBC official website and follow our verified social media platforms (@IEBCKenya),” the Commission said.
The Ol Kalou Constituency by-election is scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, with voters expected to elect a new Member of Parliament. The Commission has encouraged all eligible voters to verify their polling station details in advance, carry the required identification documents on polling day and participate peacefully in the democratic exercise.
The Commission concluded its advisory by urging Kenyans to reject misinformation and uphold the integrity of the electoral process under its civic education campaign, “Your Vote, Your Voice.”
