Woodrow named PRovoke Media’s Africa Agency of the Year as regional expansion accelerates

African strategic communications consultancy Woodrow has been named Africa Agency of the Year 2026 by PRovoke Media, recognition that underscores the firm’s rapid expansion across the continent and growing role in advising organisations on high-profile communications, policy and reputation challenges.

The award from the global communications industry publication comes as demand grows for locally led advisory firms capable of navigating Africa’s increasingly complex political, regulatory and business environment.

In announcing the award, PRovoke Media described Woodrow as “a different kind of communications firm for Africa,” citing its locally built, cross-border operating model and its focus on complex, high-stakes communications mandates.

Founded five years ago by communications strategist Charlie Tarr, Woodrow has expanded from its Nairobi headquarters into a pan-African consultancy with teams and partners in Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia, Senegal and South Africa. The firm now delivers assignments across 13 African markets.

The company said it has more than doubled revenue since 2024 while expanding its regional footprint and supporting campaigns that have collectively reached audiences of more than 70 million people across multiple countries.

“Our ambition from the outset was to build a communications consultancy designed for Africa’s realities rather than importing models developed elsewhere,” said Charlie Tarr, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Woodrow.

“This recognition reflects the strength of our team, the trust of our clients and our belief that world-class strategic communications can be built on the continent and compete globally.”

Woodrow advises clients across sectors including agriculture, healthcare, consumer goods and international development. Its client portfolio includes AGRA, Bupa Global, BIC, as well as international foundations, investors and development institutions operating across Africa.

David Karega, Head of East and Southern Africa, said the award reflected the firm’s ability to support organisations through critical business moments, including market launches, investment announcements, policy engagement and crisis communications.

“The award belongs to the team and to the clients who have entrusted us with some of their most important mandates,” Karega said. “It demonstrates that globally recognised communications excellence can be built from Nairobi and delivered across Africa.”

The recognition comes amid increased investment in Africa and growing demand for specialist advisory firms able to help organisations engage governments, regulators, investors and other stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.

Looking ahead, Woodrow said it plans to invest further in digital influence, audience intelligence and integrated stakeholder engagement as organisations seek more data-driven approaches to reputation management and public affairs.

“Africa is at the centre of our business and our future. As the continent continues to generate opportunities in technology, investment, food systems, climate and economic transformation, we want to help organisations shape those conversations and build lasting influence,” Tarr said
