Adina Okot has made history after being selected 13th overall by the Atlanta Dream in the 2026 WNBA Draft, becoming the first Kenyan woman ever drafted into the league.

The 21-year-old center from Mumias only began playing basketball in 2020, having previously been a volleyball player. In under six years, she rose from a beginner to one of the most promising prospects in women’s basketball.
Okot’s journey took her through the Mississippi State Bulldogs before transferring to the South Carolina Gamecocks, a powerhouse program where she sharpened her skills against top-level competition.
Standing at 6 foot 6, Okot has become known for her dominance on the boards. Last season, she led the Southeastern Conference in rebounds per game, underlining her impact in one of the toughest leagues in college basketball.
Her selection by Atlanta signals strong confidence in her ability and marks a historic milestone for Kenyan basketball on the global stage.
