Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have upgraded charges against two suspects following the death of Nicholas Kamau Kagecho, 54, who succumbed to injuries sustained during a violent assault in Umoja Estate, Nairobi.
The suspects, identified as Brandon Githinji, 29, and Benard Lee Ngugi, 22, had initially been charged with grievous harm but will now face murder charges under Sections 203 and 204 of the Penal Code.
Investigations indicate that the incident occurred on the night of December 24–25, 2025, when Kagecho was allegedly attacked during a domestic dispute. He sustained serious injuries and was first rushed to Metropolitan Hospital before being referred to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

Doctors at KNH fought to stabilize his condition for more than two months, but he eventually succumbed to the injuries on March 6, 2026.
Police investigations revealed that the victim had allegedly been assaulted by his two stepsons following a family disagreement that escalated into violence. The suspects were arrested on December 28, 2025, and later charged with grievous harm under Section 234 of the Penal Code.
They have been in custody at Industrial Area Remand Prison as detectives continued with investigations.
Following Kagecho’s death, authorities confirmed that the case has now been escalated to murder. The suspects remain in custody as investigators finalize legal procedures to present the upgraded charges in court.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of unresolved domestic disputes, with authorities urging families to seek peaceful ways of resolving conflicts to prevent tragic outcomes.
