Senior State House official Dennis Itumbi has effectively conceded defeat for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the Ol Kalou by-election, congratulating the winning candidate and acknowledging the outcome of the closely watched contest.
In a statement shared shortly after the results emerged, Itumbi congratulated Ngotho on his victory, saying, “Congratulations Ngotho. Well fought. Well won. Serve Ol Kalou well.”
“Good campaign Muchina Samuel Nyagah – we had a great race. We did what we could. We lost today. There is tomorrow,”Itumbi posted

The remarks are being interpreted as an early admission of defeat for UDA in a race that had attracted significant political attention due to its perceived implications for the political influence of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the Mt Kenya region.
Itumbi also praised UDA candidate Muchina Samuel Nyagah for his campaign efforts, stating, “Good campaign Muchina Samuel Nyagah — we had a great race. We did what we could. We lost today. There is tomorrow.”
He urged supporters to remain focused on future political contests, adding, “Tuonane in the next democratic process.”
The Ol Kalou by-election had evolved into a political contest between forces aligned to President William Ruto and those associated with Gachagua, with the outcome expected to shape narratives ahead of the 2027 General Election.
