Government Vows Justice After Death of Gospel Musician Rachel Wandetto

The government has vowed to ensure justice is served following the death of gospel musician Rachel Wandetto, who succumbed to injuries on Monday morning while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen condemned the attack, describing it as a senseless act driven by political intolerance and hatred.

“We shall bring the perpetrators of this senseless act to book. Rachel will get justice,” Murkomen said.

According to officials, Wandetto was allegedly attacked by what they termed as “a vile and intolerant group of people” before she was rushed to hospital for treatment. She later succumbed to her injuries.

Murkomen termed the incident deeply disturbing and warned against the rising cases of political violence and divisive politics in the country.

“No one deserves to be injured or killed because of their political views or affiliation in this day and age. It should prick the conscience of those propagating politics of hate, violence and division,” he said.

The Interior CS revealed that he had visited Wandetto at the hospital on Sunday evening, where she appeared hopeful and resilient despite her condition.

“When I visited Rachel in the hospital last evening, her face showed resilience and courage. It is quite unfortunate that she lost the fight,” he said in a statement shared on X.

Murkomen also conveyed his condolences to Wandetto’s family and friends, assuring them of government support during the difficult period of mourning.

“I wish to express my heartfelt condolences to her family and friends for this painful loss. The government stands with you in this time of immense grief,” he said.
