A suspected drug trafficker was arrested at a roadblock in Kanyonyoo along the Thika–Garissa Highway after a multi-agency security team intercepted a public service vehicle travelling from Nairobi to Kitui.
The operation, carried out as part of routine security checks, led to the discovery of approximately three kilograms of cannabis hidden inside a black backpack belonging to one of the passengers. The narcotic substance had been carefully wrapped in green polythene material and sealed with adhesive tape in what appeared to be an attempt to evade detection.

During the search, officers also recovered eight packets of rolling papers, each containing 100 sheets, alongside a digital weighing scale—items believed to be intended for repackaging and distribution.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly sourced the cannabis from Bungoma County and was transporting it to Kitui Town for commercial purposes.
The suspect was arrested on the spot and taken to Kanyonyoo Police Station, where he remains in custody. The recovered items have been secured as exhibits ahead of his arraignment in court.
Authorities say the arrest highlights the importance of coordinated security operations in combating drug trafficking and have urged the public to continue supporting efforts to curb the spread of narcotics.
