The Kenya Kwanza government has put in place strategies to ensure that Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya leader, Raila Odinga, secures votes to become the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC).
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who is also the Foreign Affairs Minister, stated on Wednesday that Mr. Odinga has extensive experience that can help bring about the necessary reforms within the AUC.
“We have a visionary leader capable of implementing crucial reforms within the African Union (AU). Without a doubt, he will aim to achieve success that aligns with the aspirations of African nations. So far, our candidate has demonstrated a strong ability to emerge victorious,” said Mr. Mudavadi.
For his part, Mr. Odinga assured that if he secures the position, he will advise African nations to enhance cooperation, focusing on areas ranging from economic growth to transportation networks.
“In Europe, one needs a single permit to travel from one country to all other member states of the European Union (EU). Here, if you travel from Kenya to Tanzania, you need a permit, and if you travel from Tanzania to Malawi, you need another permit,” said Mr. Odinga.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader emphasized that the position he is seeking is for the entire African continent, not a political office in Kenya.
“I was encouraged by many friends from abroad to vie for this position. The government is supporting me because my candidacy represents all Kenyans, not just a particular party,” he stated.
