President William Ruto has lamented the misappropriation of resources in some government agencies, stating that it has been hindering the country’s economic growth.

Dr. Ruto said that starting from this year’s budget, they will be vigilant in allocating funds to various government agencies as a way to ensure prudent spending.

Speaking on Monday, March 18, 2024, in Lolgorian, Narok County, where he attended the funeral of Mama Annah Tunai, the mother of the first Narok Governor Samuel Tunai, the President urged MPs to support him in efforts aimed at plugging any loopholes for misuse of public funds.

“I urge MPs to collaborate with us so that we don’t allocate funds where they are not needed. Institutions that can self-regulate should not be given extra resources. Let’s ensure that every shilling is used appropriately,” President Ruto said.

He commended some county governments for using their resources judiciously and promised to continue working closely with them.

The President urged Kenyans to embrace the new Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), saying it will greatly help ensure that no one is denied quality healthcare services.

“We want even those who cannot afford health insurance to benefit. Under the new law we passed, such individuals will receive quality healthcare through the taxes paid by employed individuals,” he said.

The President took the opportunity to assure residents of Transmara that his administration will improve the road infrastructure in the area to facilitate transportation.

He advocated for the affordable housing project, saying it will provide hundreds of unemployed youth with an opportunity to sustain themselves financially.

“We will start the affordable housing project soon. We will build 5,000 houses that will enable 10,000 youth to sustain themselves financially,” Dr. Ruto said.

He also promised that his government will work harder to protect Kenyans while warning those who incite violence between clans in Transmara.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who accompanied him, said the Kenya Kwanza administration will silence its critics by strengthening the country’s economy.

“I said at Kasarani that we inherited a corrupt government but within one year the President has worked day and night and we have started to see results. Last week you saw the price of fuel decrease but those who were complaining are now silent,” Mr. Gachagua said.

Other leaders who accompanied the President at the funeral included National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula, Cabinet Secretaries Soipan Tuya (Environment) and Kipchumba Murkomen (Roads).

Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu urged the Maasai community to live in peace and end clan wars, urging them to focus on development.

The deceased was described as a diligent, hardworking, and compassionate mother to the community.
