At least 11 people were arrested in Nairobi after attempting to stage a protest over the rising cost of fuel, as anti-riot police swiftly moved in to disperse the group.

The protesters had gathered near the Archives area and were trying to march դեպի the city centre when officers intercepted them. Police bundled the individuals into a waiting vehicle before taking them to Central Police Station.
Nairobi police commander Issa Mohamud said the action was part of efforts to maintain order, noting that the situation across the city remained largely calm.
“From all corners, I can say the city is calm. We have taken in a few people who tried to disrupt peace here near the Archives,” he said.
Mohamud added that the arrested individuals would be arraigned in court.
“Uchumi iendelee, amani iendee, there is nothing to worry. So far we have arrested 11, and we will take them to court tomorrow to be charged. 98% of the businesses are up… mpende nchi yenu,” he stated.
According to police headquarters, most parts of the country reported normal activity despite concerns over planned demonstrations. However, many motorists opted to stay away from Nairobi’s central business district, fearing possible disruptions.
The protests were reportedly mobilised online and appeared to lack clear leadership.
Meanwhile, police dismissed claims that sections of Mombasa Road had been blocked near the Mlolongo area, maintaining that traffic flow remained uninterrupted.
